Hurricane Helene Update
Categories: COMMUNITY CARE: Emergency Needs & Disaster Relief, Suncoast Disaster Recovery Fund,
As we wait for Hurricane Helene to move through the area, it is important for our community to remember we are strongest when we come together. Stay calm, take precautions, and heed orders from local authorities.
Our Community Foundation’s Suncoast Disaster Recovery Fund, investing in equitable and holistic recovery, is accepting donations. As with Hurricane Ian, the fund will be an essential resource for long-term recovery in DeSoto, Charlotte, Manatee and Sarasota counties responding to unmet needs once immediate emergency relief efforts have concluded.
For relief with immediate needs, the Community Foundation’s nearly 25-year-old initiative Season of Sharing is a way to support housing, transportation, utility, and childcare needs. Those in need should call 2-1-1 to be directed to support from Season of Sharing and other services.
To stay informed of vital local information, including shelter locations, evacuation orders, alerts and more, visit your county’s Emergency Services sites.
