Nine Mothers Graduate from Certified Nursing Assistant Program at Alta Vista Elementary, Funded by Community Foundation of Sarasota County

On Friday, July 31st, 2015, nine mothers celebrated graduation from the American Red Cross Certified Nursing Assistant training program in a ceremony together with their children at Alta Vista Elementary School.

An anonymous donor has granted $25,000 to the Stars and Stripes Foundation, a fund at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County created by the Military Officers Association of Sarasota and The Pops Orchestra, for the organizations’ successful community Flag Day event on June 14 of this year.

The Longboat Key Foundation announced that it is seeking to raise $1.6 million in private funding to establish the Longboat Key Center for Healthy Living. The center will offer immediate and primary health care services, which have not been available to residents and visitors on Longboat Key since the community’s sole primary care doctor retired in May 2014.

Community Foundation of Sarasota County Awards More Than $1,600,000 in Traditional and Adult Learner Scholarships

From June 2014 to May 2015, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County awarded 575 college scholarships to local area students and residents, totaling $1,602,296. 451 graduating high school seniors from Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte Counties received scholarships from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County this spring, totaling $1,386,649 in funding.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County and Herald-Tribune Media Group announce that the annual Season of Sharing campaign has reached the $2 million mark. These funds will help more than 2,800 individuals in need to stay in their homes. The $2 million goal was set in order to match the success of last year’s record new height.

Since February of 2014, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has awarded 84 grants totaling $165,283 to fund arts and cultural experiences for teachers and students through EdExploreSRQ, a web-based search platform that features hundreds of offerings by local nonprofits and individual teaching artists.

Ralph Smith Inspires All at the 22nd Annual Legacy Society Luncheon

On Friday, January 23rd, 2015, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County was privileged to have Ralph Smith, Managing Director of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, as the keynote speaker for the 22nd Annual Legacy Society Luncheon. As Senior Vice President of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Smith has concentrated on strategies to improve outcomes for children, especially those from low-income families, by supporting families and communities through education.
