Rebecca Abrahamson is the Director of Community Impact overseeing education initiatives at the Community Foundation. In this role, she leads initiatives and grantmaking efforts to ensure positive outcomes.
A long-time Sarasota resident, Rebecca attended and graduated from schools in the Sarasota County School District before eventually beginning a 20-year teaching career at Booker High School, where she led the renowned Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Magnet Program as its director from 2012-2022, advocating the vital role of the arts in education and youth development.
Throughout her teaching tenure, she earned many recognitions, including Teacher of the Year in 2017-18 and both Florida’s Best and Brightest Designation and the Florida Department of Education’s High Impact Teacher Award multiple years. She is passionate about education and innovation in the sector that can help all students—young or old—achieve their potential and live their best life.
Rebecca holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Florida State University and a master’s degree in mass communications from the University of Florida.
In her free time, Rebecca enjoys yoga, fitness, and spending time outside with her family, especially camping. When she’s not inhabiting her tent, she lives in Sarasota with her husband and two school-aged children.
